To find download speeds below 5 Mbps, we had to travel to Eastern Europe, while upload speeds never fell below 2 Mbps. Each speed test was conducted using OpenVPN as the protocol. We wanted to test VeePN’s Johannesburg server because VPNs rarely work in Africa. Our connection failed. That’s the only server in Africa, so it’s probably a fluke. Latency was great in North America; ping time jumps on other continents were due to distance, not VPN slowdown. There were  no sudden speed drops, so you can plan ahead.
