Religious Education

Religious Education is an important aspect of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bozeman. We provide regular classes for children in grades 1-6 on Sundays during the regular worship hour, 10:00-11:00.

Our program provides an accepting atmosphere in which children are stimulated to think and talk about moral and ethical concepts as outlined in the seven principles of the UU tradition, and to act upon those principles. Classes are presented with a non-sectarian, non-dogmatic approach using curricula from among the many provided by our national UUorganization.

We are a "safe congregation", following practices that assure our children safety from physical or sexual abuse of any kind. All classes are taught by two adults who have received teacher training by our Religious Education committee, and who have signed our Code of Ethics statement. Teachers are members of our congregation who have been screened by our committee. New members to the Fellowship may serve in the role of an assistant teacher, working with a member of longer standing.

Several "Inter-generational" programs are organized by the Religious Education and presented by the children and adults involved in our RE program. This year we will be in charge of the program just before Christmas, Easter, and the end-of-year "Church Picnic". We welcome your ideas and input.

Consistency is an important part of any educational program. On this note we encourage all parents to support the Religious Education program by bringing their children every Sunday.

Religious Education Needs YOU!

Our teachers are volunteers, people like you, who are a part of our congregation.

Without your help, there will be no RE - so please, see an RE committee member to sign up to teach this year.

We ask that teachers teach for 4 weeks when possible, but we are flexible!! You will co-teach with another adult. Lesson Plans and materials are provided, as well as a workshop to train our teachers. Please join the RE team and sign up to help today!

Parents: Please fill out a registration form for each of your children in RE classes or babysitting. See teachers or babysitter for forms.

The RE Program is organized by our RE Committee. Our Religious Education committee, known as the RE Committee, chooses and oversees the curricula used by our teachers each year. We present teacher training workshops for our volunteer teachers, provide supplies for teaching, hire and supply the baby sitter, and organize dates and topics for inter-generational services. We also organize special UU activities for our students outside of the regular Sunday school setting, such as skating parties, trips to special events and places, and social service activities when appropriate. The RE committee also oversees UUYouth group leaders and activities.
